Negligent Infliction of Emotional Distress No. 17: Pre-Emption
I recently heard that a friend of a friend had been hanging out with Lindsay Lohan all night. A few days later, Lindsay Lohan was on the news, apparently the victim of an assault in a Manhattan hotel room. Before the assault though, I told my friend, “Look. Hynes is no longer able to be in Batman in Brooklyn. It would have been exciting to have him, but we can’t. But, if we can get Lindsay Lohan, this film will be incredibly important. It will be her comeback. And it is made all the more perfect by my Parent Trap Redux (due about November 18, 2016) – which specifically abrogates the Parent Trap remake. Give me five minutes with her and I guarantee I can get her to sign on.” Previously I had been formulating the idea for the opening … Continue reading…

50 Hours at 15 Law Schools: A Guide to the Pro Bono Requirement
Some law schools, such as Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, require their students to complete a number of hours of Pro Bono legal services (40). The Dean of LLS is quite proud of this policy, noting that its students deliver over 40,000 hours of service to non-profit organizations each year. No state bar has adopted such a policy for its admitted attorneys—until today. Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman of the New York State Court of Appeals has mandated that each new attorney, as of January 1, 2015, must complete 50 hours of Pro Bono legal service. This new rule applies only to students who will be admitted to the bar in 2015. The new regulations are reflected in § 520.16 of the Rules of the Court of Appeals for the Admission of Attorneys and Counselors at Law, which may be … Continue reading…

5 Questions
Questions for… Donovan Rivani, ’14 and Professor Jayne Ressler 1- If you could choose to live in any movie or TV universe, which would you choose and why? Donovan: The universe that exists in You Got Mail, where everything is nice and it’s always fall and whenever something serendipitous happens, it makes a bouncy instrumentation. Lots of major notes, no minors. And Dave Chappelle is your best friend. Best universe ever. Professor Ressler: It’s before your time but I was a huge fan of the Six Million Dollar Man/Bionic Woman shows. I always wanted to be bionic. So if I could be a part of that universe and be bionic, count me in! 2- Why isn’t 11 called “onety-one”? Donovan: I would hope it’s because people have better sense than that. Professor Ressler: Although not a direct answer, … Continue reading…
